Who We Are

The Canadian Bible Society (CBS) is a non-denominational and inter-confessional organization continuing in its almost two-hundred-year commitment to making God’s Word accessible. Core mandates include Bible translation, publication, distribution and engagement – encouraging the use of God’s life-giving Word.

To ensure that everyone in Canada has access to the Bible in their heart language, CBS continues to translate it for First Nations, to provide it to the military, to prisoners, to the blind, and to children and youth through a variety of initiatives, as well as distributing Scriptures in over 100 languages and in many formats.

Around the world, CBS partners in translation and distribution projects with the 145 national organizations in the United Bible Societies family. Together, we distributed 380 million Scriptures last year.  While a great deal has been accomplished, 4,421 languages in the world still wait for even one book of the Bible.

CBS depends on the generosity of Canadian supporters in the form of donations, bequests and annuity income from those who share the vision of reaching every man, woman, and child with The Word. For Life. in Canada and around the world.

The Canadian Bible Society has always operated with one purpose – to make God’s Word available to all people in their heart language.
